​Founded in 2009, Academy of Indian Marketing (AIM) is a consortium of leading management institutions offering world class management education and research activities through doctoral and equivalent programs.

AIM was conceived by two marketing scholars in two different continents. Dr. Jagdish Sheth (Atlanta, USA) and Prof. Neelemegham (India). With Dr. Sheth and Prof. Neelamegham at the helm, deans and directors of India’s top rated business schools / institutions were convinced that a common platform was a boon to nurture the research activities in the Marketing domain, leading to the formation of AIM.

On 21st May 2009 Academy of Indian Marketing was registered and received certificate of incorporation by Registrar of Companies, Mumbai as a Not for Profit company U/S.25 of Companies Act in India . Dr. Jagdish Sheth – the Founder and Chairman is supported by the Co-founders – Prof. Neelamegham, Mr. Rajeev Karwal and Dr. V. Kumar and the Business director –Mr. Jayant Shah.

AIM has successfully hosted/supported various conferences and doctoral consortium and is committed to its vision and mission of promoting research in the area of marketing and promoting marketing as a discipline with active support from academia and industry.

Mission
  • To foster academic research unique to emerging markets.
  • To become a catalyst between the academics and practitioners in creating and disseminating marketing perspectives and empirical research unique to emerging markets.
  • To make marketing a positive societal force in emerging markets through nonprofit organizations (NGOs) and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
  • To encourage students and academic scholars from diverse disciplines to focus on innovative marketing solutions unique to emerging markets.
Activities
  • Grow membership of the Academy with a target of one thousand members in the next five years, consisting of doctoral students, faculty, scholars and practitioners.
  • Organize an annual academic conference with peer reviewed paper presentations and published in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • Organize an annual conference on “Not for Profit Marketing” in partnership with the American Marketing Association.
  • Inaugurate the “AIM – AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium” in India.
  • Organize an annual industry Academic Conference on Market Research needs of emerging markets.
  • Organize in partnership with American Marketing Association an annual conference on Public Policy and Marketing unique to emerging markets.
  • Organize Faculty Development Workshops in India on research methods, theory construction and publishing in top academic journals.
  • Develop a Research Institute of Marketing which will fund academic research unique to marketing in emerging markets.
  • Organize an annual retreat of Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) on role of marketing in emerging markets.
  • Organize and grow student chapters in India and other emerging markets to foster marketing as a positive force for development.

Dr. V. Kumar is the Richard and Susan Lenny Distinguished Chair Professor in Marketing, the Executive Director of the Center for Excellence in Brand and Customer Management, and the Director of the Ph. D. Program in Marketing at the J. Mack Robinson School of Business, Georgia State University, USA. Dr. V. Kumar holds a Ph. D. in Marketing from the University of Texas, Austin, USA. Dr. V. Kumar’s pioneering research on Customer Loyalty and Customer Lifetime Value has received attention worldwide. His research has been widely published in premier journals such as Journal of Marketing, Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, and Operations Research to name a few. He was recently ranked as one of the top five scholars in marketing worldwide. Dr. V. Kumar (affectionately known as ‘VK’) also serves as a consultant for leading Fortune 500 corporations. He has been conferred with several awards and honors including the Bharat Gaurav Award and the Hind Ratan Award from the Government of India, the best Professor in Marketing Award from CMO, Asia and the Pravasi Acheivers Gold Medal by the NRI Welfare Soceity of India, in the year 2010. He has also received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to the area of research in marketing including the Robert Buzzell Award for the paper published by the Marketing Science Institute that best contributes to the Practice of Marketing. He was also the recipient of the 2010 DMEF, Robert G. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award for Lifetime Contributions to Direct and Interactive Marketing. Dr. S. Neelamegham, known for his pioneering work in developing Indian cases on management is currently a Distinguished Professor of Marketing and President of the NIILM Center for Management Studies, New Delhi. He is also the honorary Chairman of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Career oriented Programmes at the University of Delhi. He has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies of the University of Delhi. He has been a visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin,USA, Concordia University, (Canada), Curtin International (Australia), University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), School of Tourism Organizations (France), Case Method Programme of Harvard Business School, and Durban University, South Africa. He was instrumental in setting up the School of Business Studies at the University of Zambia of which he was the founder Dean. He has served as a consultant to UNDP, ADB, Economic Commission (Africa), Asian Productivity Organization, Commonwealth Secretariat, Asian Center for Development Administration, and is present on the boards of several private and public sector organizations. He was the Chairman of the committee which prepared the blueprint for setting up of the fifth Indian Institute of Management at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Author of numerous publications his current areas of interest include, global competitiveness, strategic alliances, and the changing face of Indian marketing.

Dr. Jagadish (Jag) Sheth, a thought leader, consultant, and communicator is currently holding the Charles H Kellstadt Professor of Marketing at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He has been on the faculty of the University of Southern California, University of Illinois, Columbia University as well as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),U.S.A. He has worked for numerous industries and companies in USA, Europe, and Asia. His seminal contribution to the field of marketing has been well-recognized and he is a recipient of numerous awards and distinctions: important among them being the Outstanding Marketing Educator Award by the Academy of Marketing Science; Richard D. Irwin Distinguished Marketing Educator; Charles Coolidge Parlin awards by the American Marketing Association; Outstanding Educator award by the Sales and Marketing Executives International; and the First Global Management Guru Award in 2011 by Birla Institute of Management and Technology, India.
